Weekday Weather Forecast – July 19th – July 21st

on

Good morning everyone. Half the week is behind us already, and the weekend is beginning to peek over the horizon. The warm period of the last few days is about to end, the current rain and thunder is an indicator of this and is moving through Ireland ahead of a cold front due later today. Following the cold front, a weak low pressure area will develop and move over Ireland over the next few days before clearing on Sunday.

Wednesday started wet and muggy with heavy rain and thunder affecting significant areas of the country. Daytime highs will reach 20-21°C around noon today, just before the cold front starts moving through. Temperatures will drop like a stone when that happens, down to 15-16°C in a rather short time. Around the same time, an area of heavy rainfall will move through as well, thunder is very much a possibility given the turbulent atmosphere. Most of that rain should have cleared by the evening, when temperatures are expected to drop further, down to 7-8°C.

Thursday will start off cool but dry. It will be noticeably cooler throughout the day, with daytime highs of just 15-17°C. Following a dry start, more persistent rain will move in towards the afternoon, although the worst of the rain will stay well to the north of Cork. The night will be equally wet, with lows of around 9-10°C expected. At least it won’t be too windy.

Friday will dry up initially. However, showery rain will move in towards the afternoon as the center of a low pressure area moves over Ireland. It will be slightly warmer with 17-19°C possible. Winds continue to remain calm throughout the day, but rain will get more persistent towards the afternoon and evening. Nighttime lows are expected to come in at around 11-13°C, so the worst of the cold spell may be coming to an end already.

As for the weekend, that looks drier and warmer, and by Sunday, we should be back into the 20s temperature-wise, setting the scene for another rather pleasant week.
